Faculty Highlights
Linda Van Buskirk was named significant contributor (faculty at Cornell) for Alyssa Ehrlich’s Merrill Presidential Scholar award.
Sahara Byrne: Received the Young Faculty in Teaching Excellence Award and gained the recognition of The American Council on Consumer Interest with the 2009 Applied Consumer Economics Award. Sahara also received the Kyoon Hur Dissertation Award by the International Communication Association, Mass Communication Division. Her research on the study of the effect of legitimate sponsor partnership on advertisements from biased sources has received funding by the Merck Foundation in the amount of $20,000.
Geri Gay recently went to print with her completed monograph entitled, Context Aware Mobile Computing: Affordances of Space, Social Awareness and Social Influence which she completed while on Sabbatical. “This monograph attempts to address issues of using and designing location based computing systems and the use of these tools to enhance social awareness, navigate in spaces, extend interactions, and influence others.”

Jeremy Birnholtz and Jeff Hancock will receive a $460K grant (3 years) from NSF to study the role of narratives and deception in the sharing of interpersonal awareness information within social and work groups.
Cliff Scherer was just appointed to NOAA’S National Oceans and Human Health Initiative Advisory Panel by Assistant Administrator John Dunnigan of the US Department of Commerce. The panel meets twice each year to advise NOAA on the development of vision, mission and goals related to research, outreach, and data management.
